This policy explains what personal data Compare Block Managers collects, how and why we use it, who we share it with, and your rights under UK data protection law (UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018). It applies to this website only.
Who we are
Compare Block Managers is an independent comparison website for UK block managers and managing agents. For the purposes of UK GDPR we are the "data controller" for personal data collected through this site. You can reach us at hello@compareblockmanagers.co.uk for any privacy question or request.
Information we collect
- Information you give us — if you use our Find a manager form at /get-quotes/, we collect your name, email address, phone number (optional), block postcode, number of flats, your situation, your current agent name (optional), and any notes you provide. If you contact us via our contact or correction forms, we collect the details you submit (name, email, company name and message). We only collect what those forms ask for, and never share it with third parties without your explicit consent.
- Usage and analytics data — with your consent, we use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used (for example pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser). This is aggregated and is not used to identify you. No analytics cookies are set until you accept them in our cookie banner.
- Technical/server data — like most websites, our host records standard server logs (such as IP address and browser type) for security and to keep the site running.
We do not run user accounts, take payments, or knowingly collect data from children.
How we use your information, and our legal basis
- To help you find a block manager — when you submit the Find a manager form, we use your details to identify suitable accredited companies in your area and respond to your request. Legal basis: taking steps at your request prior to entering a service relationship.
- To respond to enquiries and corrections you send us — legal basis: our legitimate interests in answering you, or taking steps at your request.
- To measure and improve the site via analytics — legal basis: your consent (which you can withdraw at any time).
- To keep the site secure and operational — legal basis: our legitimate interests.
The company information we publish
Our directory contains business (not personal) information about property management companies, drawn from public registers (The Property Ombudsman, The Property Institute, Companies House) and public review platforms (Google, Trustpilot). We publish this to help consumers compare regulated services. If you are connected to a listed firm and want a correction, contact us.
Who we share data with
We do not sell your personal data. We use a small number of service providers that process data on our behalf:
- Netlify — website hosting and form submissions.
- Google Analytics — website analytics (only with your consent).
These providers may process data outside the UK (for example in the US); where they do, that transfer is covered by appropriate safeguards such as the UK extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or standard contractual clauses.
Cookies
We use essential cookies for the site to function and, only with your consent, analytics cookies. Full details are in our Cookie Policy.
How long we keep it
We keep enquiry and form data only as long as needed to deal with your message and for a reasonable period afterwards, then delete it. Aggregated analytics data is retained according to Google Analytics' standard retention settings.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to our processing of your personal data, and to data portability. You can also withdraw analytics consent at any time (see the cookie policy). To exercise any right, email hello@compareblockmanagers.co.uk. Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal data, but no website can guarantee absolute security.
